The Big Hunt

Steve was gracious enough to bring me along for the hunt this year, well Frank was unavailable so the spot opened up  – which I was grateful for. The cabin sits above a small pond that calls the deer in, in both mornings and evenings. We were lucky enough to spot a 7-point buck bedded down in the grass by the pond around 7AM on our fist morning. Game time, and we had the thing bagged and in the cooler by 10. The goal for the weekend was just one deer, so we spent the rest of the time hanging, swimming, paddle boating and had a nice sunset walk with the pups. Hopefully even with Frank back next year I can still get the nod to get back out to beautiful Mendocino for the annual hunt.

The lay of the land – and the reason to hunt here

7:30 in the AM and we got one down

It's no joke work getting this thing butchered up

Not even 10AM and the buck is in the box

A rack in hand and doing our best to stick to the book

Some action for the pups

Beers and snacks – ready for an evening stroll

Headed for high ground

A pups heaven
